Crisp, to the point, easy to read, and very compelling book. Well researched content, lots of futuristic probable scenarios are visualised by the author. This leads me to think that perhaps into the future, the concepts of nations shall cease to exist and large corporations may eventually take their roles.
Absolutely worth buying this interesting take on technology and the future!
I wont give too much away, but the use of virtual reality and a 1st person perspective really draws you in and makes you feel like you're part of the journey he's trying to create. I read a lot about world affairs, foreign policy and technology and work in the latter, but I haven't come across anything that talks about the same types of scenarios as the ones in this book. Even reports from big consulting firms on how technology could impact the future don't offer the same perspective! I definitely recommend you buy this book if you are looking for a new perspective into what the future will look like!
As a professor of international relations who has worked in the tech field, I always try to include a section about technology’s impact on world affairs, especially geopolitics, in my courses. I think people are increasingly aware of some of the coming issues, such as the automation of jobs, but very few seem to extend that thinking to how such issues might interact with the current world order. That is, until now. Abishur has done a great job of laying down some of the momentous problems facing our political and corporate leaders in the coming decades. Each one of the chapters starts with a wonderful story, a scenario, that gets the brain working before moving onto the facts, figures, and hypothesis. This makes Next Geopolitics a pleasant read in addition to being highly stimulating and educational. I will be recommending my students to read some of these chapters, especially the ones on technological terrorism and the impact of widespread usage of military drones, as I feel these are especially relevant for my course. Good work all round.
